What is Cooperative Extension?

About Us
We are part of Kentucky’s two land-grant universities, the University of Kentucky and Kentucky State University, who serve as partners in conducting educational programs through Cooperative Extension. The program delivery process involves Extension faculty, county agents, advisory council members, volunteer leaders, and the general public. We deliver information, education, and solutions. And we grow ideas into better communities, stronger local economies, and healthier lives.

Daviess County Cooperative Extension

The Daviess County Cooperative Extension Service has been helping grow kids, families, farms, and gardens since 1914. Cooperative Extension is present in every Kentucky county and is found throughout the United States. County Extension Agents serve as the links between local communities and experts at the universities. Daviess County Cooperative Extension offers research-based programs in the following areas:

4-H Youth Development – Develops important life skills in youth that build character and assists youth in making life and career choices. With 7 core curricula, 4-H Youth Development prepares the youth of today to be the leaders of tomorrow.

Family & Consumer Sciences – Helps families become resilient and healthy through learning nutrition and food preparation skills, health care strategies, financial management, and other self-reliance skills.

Agriculture & Natural Resources – Cultivates successful farm businesses for all types of agriculture and Agri-businesses. Promotes principles to protect and use natural resources wisely.

Horticulture – Promotes successful food production, lawn, and landscape care for residents and commercial growers.

KY Nutrition Education Program – KYNEP encompasses two separate USDA programs: The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP), and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP-Ed). Both programs are administered by the UK Cooperative Extension Service, and target low-income families and individuals with nutrition education. The goals of both are to educate limited resource families with young children and SNAP-eligible individuals to plan nutritious meals on a limited budget, acquire safe food handling practices, improve food preparation skills and change behavior necessary to have a healthy lifestyle.

All programs foster leadership and community development, volunteer service, and support community projects and businesses.
