Mark your calendars! 4-H Teen Summit (middle school students) is March 16-18 and 4-H Teen Conference (high school students) is June 13-16.
4-H Speech Contest
The Daviess County 4-H Speech Contest will be held Tuesday, November 15 at the Daviess County Extension Office. Those registered will be sent additional information.
November 4-H Teen Board
High School-aged 4-Hers, join us on Monday, November 14 at 4:30 p.m. at the Daviess County Extension Office for our first meeting of the year. We will have a program called “Stop the Bleed” presented by Owensboro Health. You will learn how to properly use tourniquets in an emergency situation – a skill that can save a life! We were able to provide this program in 2019. The participants thought it was fun and educational. Please RSVP by noon on Friday, November 11.
Reid’s Orchard Apple Festival
THANK YOU to everyone who volunteered to sell soft drinks at the 4-H booth during the Reid’s Orchard Apple Festival. It was a great weekend and we sold a lot of drinks! (Download the pdf to see pictures)
Club Family Fun Night
The 4-H Rabbit and Dairy Goat clubs recently celebrated the end of summer with games, food, and costumes at the Daviess County Fairgrounds. (Download the pdf to see pictures)
4-H Enrollment
At this time each year, we ask that both our 4-H members and volunteers complete a new enrollment form to keep your membership current and make sure you are receiving the best information on what’s happening in Daviess County 4-H and the state of Kentucky!
If you haven’t done so yet, please be sure to complete a new enrollment form to stay on our mailing list. Some changes were made to the forms and they are purple this year. Enrollment forms can be found on our website at https://daviess.ca.uky.edu/4h-enrollment.

4-H Camp Save the Date
Daviess County will be going to West KY 4-H Camp July 4-7, 2023!
Broccoli Chowder Recipe
Ingredients
· 2 tablespoons canola oil
· ½ cup chopped onion
· 3 cloves garlic, finely minced
· ½ cup chopped carrots
· 2 cups diced, unpeeled red potatoes
· 3 cups broccoli florets
· ½ cup low-fat, shredded cheese
· ½ teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
· ½ teaspoon salt
· ¼ teaspoon pepper
· 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
· 3½ cups low sodium chicken broth
· ½ cup half-and-half
Directions
1. In a large heavy pot, heat the oil over medium heat.
2. Add the onion and garlic and sauté 2-3 minutes.
3. Add the carrots, red potatoes and broccoli one at a time; sauté each about 2 minutes.
4. Add the Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and flour and toss until vegetables are coated.
5. Cook 1-2 minutes. Add the chicken broth and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cover pot, and simmer for 15 minutes.
6. Remove lid and stir in the half-and-half. Bring back to a simmer and remove from heat.
7. Ladle into bowls and top with cheese to serve.
Make it a Meal: Serve with baked apples, lettuce wedge salad, low-fat yogurt, and water!
Servings: 6 Serving Size: ⅙ of pie
